Getting Started
What is MoonSet?
MoonSet is a precision moon phase calibrator designed for luxury watch enthusiasts. It provides accurate astronomical calculations to help you set and verify the moon phase complication on your timepiece.
How does the moon phase display work?
MoonSet calculates the current moon phase using precise astronomical data based on the 29.53-day synodic cycle. The app displays:
- Current moon phase name (New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, etc.)
- Moon age in days since the last new moon
- Days since the last full moon
- Disk rotation degrees for watch calibration
How do I calibrate my watch's moon phase?
Use the calibration card in the app to see the precise disk rotation value. Compare this with your watch's moon phase indicator and adjust accordingly. The disk rotation degrees correspond to the position of the moon phase disk in Patek Philippe-style complications.
Features
What is the Full Moon Calendar?
The Full Moon Calendar shows all full moon dates for the current year. This helps you plan ahead for when your watch's moon phase complication should display a full moon, making it easy to verify accuracy over time.
Why does MoonSet ask for my location?
Location access is optional and used only to display your current city name alongside the moon phase information. Moon phase calculations work perfectly without location access — the moon phase is the same everywhere on Earth.
How do I change the appearance?
MoonSet supports System, Light, and Dark display modes. The app follows your device's appearance setting by default, or you can choose a specific mode in the app settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does MoonSet work offline?
Yes! All moon phase calculations are performed locally on your device. No internet connection is needed. The only feature that requires connectivity is the initial reverse-geocoding of your city name (if location is enabled).
How accurate are the calculations?
MoonSet uses precise astronomical algorithms based on the 29.53-day synodic lunar cycle. The calculations are accurate enough for setting any mechanical watch's moon phase complication.
Is my data private?
MoonSet stores no personal data whatsoever. The only stored preference is your appearance mode choice, kept locally on your device. We have no servers and collect no information. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
